In this category, we’ll talk about action games. Action games involve the player executing a specific action, similar to the way we would perform the same action in a board game. But, instead of rolling dice, we control characters, like in the case of this genre games, we choose the action. Instead of rolling dice, we control characters. Because we control the characters we get to use abilities as we please to get the most out of the game. For instance, if you control a robot that takes action when you’re a robot you may decide to roll more dice than normal just because you want to play a more interesting game that way.
This genre games usually involve some kind of branching decision making because everything happens so fast. And if you’ve ever played the action title of Super Smash Bros. Brawl then you know what we mean by this word “fast”.
In the next section, we’ll talk about strategy games. In this section, we’re talking about games that are focused on strategic planning by the player to take their turn in a way that is different than in a game that focuses on the action.
